About
About Helsinki Blockchain Week
2025 was the hype. 2026 wrote the rules. 2027 is the year of infrastructure, and Helsinki Blockchain Week is where traditional finance and the builders of blockchain rails meet to connect them.
2027 is the year of infrastructure
This is the year that separates the true professionals from the amateurs. Institutional tokenisation platforms already power intraday repo and collateral mobility for major banks. Interoperability protocols let traditional financial systems exchange data securely with blockchain networks. The Eurosystem's Pontes platform settles wholesale transactions in central bank money on DLT. None of this is theory. It is the literal digital rail between traditional finance and blockchain. Connecting to it means faster settlement, lower operational cost and greater security. HBW puts the institutions that will run on these rails in the same room as the people building them.
A crypto bull run that made headlines and moved very little institutional capital.
Eurosystem · Pontes
Central bank money, on DLT.
The Eurosystem's Pontes platform bridges traditional money and digital assets. Wholesale transactions settle directly in central bank money on a DLT network, giving tokenised assets what they have always lacked: finality and trust in the ultimate settlement asset. It reduces operational risk and lays the groundwork for a truly synchronised European digital asset market.
Existing institutions will need to connect their systems to the DLT network to access central bank money for settlement.
The 2027 programme
Five pillars of the infrastructure year
Every session faces the same test: does it put real infrastructure between traditional finance and blockchain networks, and what does it return in settlement time, cost and security? The programme runs through five pillars:
The platforms moving institutional assets on-chain today, and what it takes to connect to them.
What HBW stands for
We talk about rails, integration and settlement, not price action.
Why Helsinki
Helsinki is built for the infrastructure year. A vibrant fintech ecosystem, a national focus on cybersecurity and advanced mobile solutions running on one of the most digitised economies in the world give the city a robust digital foundation. It is the kind that naturally supports advanced financial infrastructure and tokenisation platforms. HBW connects Finnish and Nordic institutions, technology businesses and investors with the international peers laying the same rails.
- Fintech ecosystem. A dense network of banks, payment companies and fintechs that ship to production, not to pilots.
- Cybersecurity first. A national security culture that treats resilience as infrastructure, exactly what custody and settlement rails demand.
- Digitised to the core. Mobile-first banking, digital identity and e-government adopted by the whole population: the ideal test bed for tokenised finance.
